Although we specialize in the Middle Ages and Renaissance, we can design tentage from any time period and in any style. We appreciate that a period pavilion or tent is a major investment. We use the highest quality materials and our tents are manufactured with the following features to last many seasons of Faires, Tournaments and Wars:

  • All fabric seams are triple sewn for strength and durability.
  • All stress points are reinforced with extra layers of the tent material and nylon webbing.
  • All wooden parts are either painted or clear sealed to preserve them from the elements.
  • The roof panels and seams are waterproofed with a UV, mold and midew resistant, flexible compound.
  • The floor piece is a heavy duty waterproof vinyl that doubles as the staking pattern to ensure that the walls are properly placed.
  • All tents described below can be made with Sunbrella brand fabric in a wide variety of colours. This choice adds 25% to the listed prices, before GST and shipping.

We strive for a balance between authenticity and durability so the modern materials will blend in to the overall look and function of our creations. All pavilions, tents and sunshades can be painted to your specifications. Enquire for prices of painted adornments.

Tents, Pavillions & Sunshades

Classic Round Pavilion
The Classic Round Pavillion has been described as the "pavilion of holding" since it looks small on the outside but holds a lot inside!

This pavilion has an internal spoke frame with one hardwood center pole. The spokes are great for hanging internal dividing walls and clothes and lanterns up out of the way. The heights of these pavilions are proportionate to their diameters, for example, the wider they are, the taller they need to be. Made of plain beige 8oz 100% cotton canvas, this pavilion is perfect for painting your own designs on. The waterproof vinyl floor doubles as the wall-staking pattern. Sod flaps at the bottom edge of the walls keep out drafts and vermin. There are no guy lines needed, except for the high wind lines from the center peak. Indeed, the proto-type of this pavilion stood up in 80 km/h Prairie winds, when all the modern tents around it blew down. Without any guy lines.

6' diameter round: (sleeps one with lots of gear) $600.00
10' diameter round: (sleeps two separately with lots of gear) $1000.00
12' diameter round: (fits a queen sized tourney bed plus lots of gear) $1200.00
14' diameter round: (fits two queen sized tourney beds tightly plus some gear) $1400.00
16' diameter round: (small family sized) $1600.00
18' diameter round: (medium family sized) $1800.00
20' diameter round: (large family sized) $2000.00

Double Round PavillionOval Pavilion
or Double Round Pavilion with internal spoke frame has two hardwood upright poles, a ridgepole and a transverse brace pole. With slightly more framing than two round pavilions, the oval pavilion is much more spacious than two rounds and very sturdy. The heights of these pavilions are proportionate to their diameters, for example, the wider they are, the taller they need to be. Made of plain beige 8 oz 100% cotton canvas, this pavilion is perfect for painting your own designs on. The heavy-duty vinyl floor doubles as the wall-staking pattern. Sod flaps at the bottom edge of the walls help to keep out drafts and vermin. ((Disclaimer: WTI is Not responsible for any Lemmings getting into your pavilion ;)) With an internal frame, there are no guy lines, except for the high wind guys from the pole peaks, which are recommended for the larger versions. There are lots of places to hang internal dividing walls, clothes and lanterns. The rounded ends of the larger versions form natural places for bedrooms or storage in the smaller ones. The proportions listed below can be adjusted somewhat to suit your needs. Enquire for prices of the different proportions of length to width.

Marquise PavilionMarquise Pavilion
or Marque Pavilion is a very classy looking tent with crow's feet ropes and guy lines. The frame has two hardwood upright poles, a ridgepole and wall poles. This is slightly more framing than the ova pavilion. With the hand finished guy lines, this hansome pavilion is very sturdy. The height is proportional to their lenght and width, for example, the wider they are, the taller they need to be. Made of plain beige 8 oz 100% cotton canvas, this pavilion is perfect for painting your own designs on. The heavy-duty vinyl floor doubles as the wall-staking pattern. Hexagonal Tent
Although not a period design, this tent is reminiscent of the Mongolian Ger. It does not have a center pole to get in the way and it can be designed to have a smoke hole in the center top. These tents are super for households since six tents of the same size can be set up in a ring to form a private central courtyard. The only real disadvantage to these is the large number of frame poles required to set it up, although there is much less hardware than for the Ger! The advantage to a self-supporting frame is that there are no guy lines needed except for the high wind lines. These also make excellent indoor merchant booths.

Pictured without frame for clairityNorse "A" Frame Tent
Based on the grave finds of Northern Europe, these tents have some modern anachronisms for modern comforts. We've added a floor and doors at each end with toggle closures as well as sod flaps along the bottom edges to help to keep out drafts and vermin. The walls/roof and floor are all water proofed for greater comfort. The 8oz plain cotton canvas just begs to be painted. Since shipping is so prohibitively expensive for the framing, the price is for the canvas only. Detailed measurements for the frame construction are included in the illustrated set-up manual.

10' wide x 10' long (x 8' high at ridge line): $ 250.00
10' wide x 15' long (x 8' high at ridge line): $350.00
10' wide x 10' long (x 10' high at ridge line): $300.00
10' wide x 15' long (x 10' high at ridge line): $400.00

Tents, Pavillions & SunshadesAnglo-Saxon Geteld
This interesting tent is based on drawings in 12th century manuscripts. The frame is a simple internal structure requiring only three pieces (goalpost shaped) and stakes along the side walls/ roof holds down the tent. Sod flaps around the bottom edge keep drafts and vermin at bay. The two ends are door bays that increase the living area of the tent much like a porch.

The measurements are from upright pole to upright pole for the length with the door bays being an extra 4' off each end. See diagram above.

6' wide x 6' long x 6' high: (Single person with some gear) $500.00
6' wide x 8' long x 6' high: (One couple with some gear) $600.00
6' wide x 10' long x 6' high: (Two people with lots of gear) $700.00
8' wide x 8' long x 8' high: (Good size for the kids) $800.00

Tents, Pavillions & SunshadesMongolian Ger
Ger is actually the Mongolian word for "home" or "dwelling place". The Russians were the ones to call these steppes tents 'Yurts'. Ever increasingly popular for their spacious interiors and wind resistant shape, these tents do take up a lot of room in the pack train and require several people to help set-up. With a smoke hole and rain flap in the center top it is possible to have a small brazier inside to heat this tent.

14' diameter with canvas cover: $2800.00
16" diameter with canvas cover: $3200.00
18' diameter with canvas cover: $3600.00
20' diameter with canvas cover: $4000.00
There is approximately a 2 month wait for the canvas covered Ger due to the labor intensity of the frame construction.

20' diameter with 100% sheep's wool felt cover: $10,000
There is approximately a 4 to 6 month wait for a custom wool felt covered Ger due to the labor intensity of the felting and frame construction as well as the availability of the seasonal wool supply.

Prices for both the wool felt covered Ger and the canvas covered Ger includes the wall frame and door with doorframe, bands for securing the wall frame, all roof spokes and spoke ring, the cover with waterproof roof section and cover bands and all storage bags. An illustrated set-up manual is also included. Sunbrella brand fabric is an additional 25% of listed price.

Roman Campaign Tents
Based on archeological finds and forensic reconstruction, these tents are very functional in canvas and much lighter and easier to take care of than the goatskin originals. The sidewalls even have the sod flaps to seal out drafts and vermin.

Centurions Tent
10' x 10' (Roman feet!) and ~7' tall at the ridge: $1200.00

The modern measurements are 9' by 9'. The wall, roof and door panels are all sewn in the original sized pieces that the goatskin leather originals are. This type of piecing was originally needed to make up the wall size since there is only so much skin on one little goat!! Price includes waterproofed roof, all wall and door panels, all poles and joint pieces, all stakes, guy lines and storage bags. An illustrated set-up manual is also included. Sunbrella brand fabric is an additional 25% of listed price.

Soon to come to our repertoire will be the Legate and the Troop tents.

Snap-Poles TM
No serfs to do the hard work? Have your thralls run off in terror? Taxed too much to be able to afford servants? Although not even remotely period, these special spokes make setting up either your Classic Round Pavilion or your Oval Pavilion by your-self a snap! At $299.00 extra per 16 spoke set; these pieces of marvelous engineering art are worth every penny for the ease they provide at set-up and takedown time. Half sets are also available.

Wall Mirror
Hanging from the wall toggles, this marvelous unbreakable mirror lets you check your visage, hang your jewelry and hide your toiletries. Tapestry fabric frames it all around and it stores away in it's own carry bag.
12" x 24": $40.00

Insulating Walls and Insulating Ceilings
Cool weather and cold nights a problem? Try tying these insulating panels to the interiors of the walls around your bed. The idea for these comes from the American Indians and their practice of having interior walls in their teepees to create a dead air space between the great out doors and the living area. Canvas alone is not very heat trapping. They work best in conjunction with the ceiling insulation panels to create a dead air space around the sleeping area

Prices are dependant on tent size. Please enquire.

Light Ring
Create a pleasant glow inside and out of your Classic Round pavilion or your Oval Pavilion with these simple light rings that go around the upright poles above the spoke hub. With nothing flammable near the candles, it is a very safe way to light the interior. The 18 metal holders catch any wax spills from tea lights or votive size candles placed inside. Think safety and do not use if there are insulating layers across the spokes. Not suitable for tapers.
